I am reading “Haskell School of Expression” (I'm considering using it as learning material for teaching beginners), and it also says (from memory, not exact quote): “You can think of values as functions of 0 arguments”. The Haskell School of Expression is quite nice and illustrates the perks of functional programming well. He has a lovely example of essentially this; I stepped through the code on (lots of) paper, and it really began to help. I think I would buy: "Smalltalk the language and the implementation" (The blue book)and "Types and Programming languages". -The Haskell School of Expression I've already read the above, so I won't buy them again. The Haskell School of Expression: Learning Functional Programming Through Multimedia Paul Hudak Cambridge University Press, Paperback, Published March 2000, 363 pages, ISBN 0521644089. Don tells me that the announcement is the all-time highest-scoring Haskell article on Reddit. Created on 03 Sep 2006, by Unknown IP Address, read more… I'm pleased to report that my review of the Haskell School of Expression: Learning Functional Programming through Multimedia just got published on Slashdot. I'm starting to work through Paul Hudak's The Haskell School of Expression and porting the code to Scala. We've I have even started learning Haskell myself, using Paul Hudak's excellent book “The Haskell School of Expression”. Have a look at Paul Hudak's book: The Haskell School of Expression. I'll use this IO code as a starting point translating his code that uses Haskell's IO monad. > http://www.cs.yale.edu/homes/hudak/SOE/ Thank you. The Haskell School of Expression.
